Prudential Financial Stock Outlook: Is Wall Street Bullish or Bearish?![]() With a market cap of $38.2 billion, Prudential Financial, Inc. (PRU) provides insurance, investment management, and other financial products and services in the United States and internationally. Founded in 1875, the Newark, New Jersey-based company operates through PGIM, Retirement Strategies, Group Insurance, Individual Life, and International Businesses segments. Shares of the insurance provider have trailed the broader market over the past year and in 2025. PRU stock has declined 10.1% over the past 52 weeks and 10.7% on a YTD basis. In comparison, the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has returned 11.9% over the past year and 1% in 2025. Narrowing the focus, PRU has also lagged behind the iShares U.S. Insurance ETF’s (IAK) 17.8% rally over the past 52 weeks and its 8% surge this year. ![]() On Apr. 30, PRU stock declined 1.3% after the company released its Q1 earnings. The company posted revenue of $13.5 billion in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Moreover, its net income fell 37.9% year-over-year to $707 million. Additionally, PRU’s adjusted earnings for the quarter came in at $3.29 and surpassed the Street’s estimates by 2.5%. For the current year ending in December, analysts expect PRU’s EPS to increase 14.8% year over year to $13.73. Moreover, the company has surpassed analysts’ consensus estimates in two of the past four quarters, while missing on two occasions. Among the 17 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Hold.” That’s based on two “Strong Buy” ratings, 13 “Holds,” and two “Strong Sells.” ![]() The configuration has remained stable in recent months. On May 19, Morgan Stanley (MS) analyst Nigel Dally maintained an "Equal-Weight" rating for Prudential Financial stock and raised the price target from $108 to $117. PRU’s mean price target of $116 indicates a premium of 9.6% from the current market prices. Its Street-high target of $140 suggests a robust 32.2% upside potential from current price levels.
